CCCLXXX (A X, 3 a)

TO ATTICUS (AT ROME) ARCANUM, 7 APRIL

I am dictating this letter on the 7th of April—the second on the same day—and I wrote a longer one the day before with my own hand. They say that you have appeared at the Regia, ^[Note] and I don't blame you, seeing that I have not shrunk from incurring the like criticism. ^[Note] But I await a letter from you. I really don't see now what I have to expect, but nevertheless, even if there is nothing to say, I should like you to write and tell me only that; Caesar writes to say that he excuses my non-appearance, and declares that he doesn't take it at all amiss. I am not disturbed by what he tells me about Tullus and Servius, that they have grumbled at his not having given them the same licence as he did to me Absurd fellows! To send their sons to besiege Gnaeus Pompeius, ^[Note] and then to scruple about coming to the senate themselves. I However, I am sending you a copy of Caesar's letter.
